Keith was born in Shillong, India of British Parents in 1941, and soon afterwards moved to Scotland. He was educated at Strathallan Private Boarding School, Perthshire from 1946 to 1957 before attending the Mackie Academy, Stonehaven up until 1959.
Keith moved south to London in 1960 and worked as a Tea Taster. He returned to India in 1964 and was employed as a Technical Tea Adviser until 1971, when he went home to the United Kingdom. Upon arriving in the UK, Keith went on to read Law at the University of Aberdeen and qualified with an LLB (Bachelor of Law) in 1974. Remaining in Aberdeen, Keith served a two-year apprenticeship with Paull & Williamson, before being appointed Assistant Solicitor with Storie, Cruden & Simpson. From 1979 to 1986 he was a partner with Brander & Cruickshank, after which he became a partner with Iain Smith & Company, a law firm in Aberdeen and Stonehaven.
From 1988 to 1991, Keith also lectured in law at the Scottish Offshore Training Association. From 1991 to the present day, Keith has operated independently in the following fields: Private Legal and Charitable Work, Notary Public, Curator Bonis, Private Trusteeships and Legal Executor. Keith also does a lot of charity work for various organisations and is a well-respected member of the Stonehaven community.
